Benefits of Collagen Powder + Anti-Aging Coffee Recipe

I’m not one for chemical-laden skincare products, I’m always looking for natural ways to keep my skin looking fresh and clear. When people ask me about my skincare routine, I talk less about products and more about diet.

I truly believe that good skin starts from the inside out.

I’ve been hearing a lot about collagen powder lately (Jennifer Aniston adds them to her smoothies!) and have been actively researching the benefits and science behind the trend. So when Vital Proteins reached out to me a few months ago, it was perfect timing!

What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It is the basic building block of skin, hair, nails, bones and joints. It’s what gives our skin firmness and elasticity and what protects bone loss and joint degeneration. It’s also rich in protein.

As we age, the body produces less collagen. Hence, wrinkly skin and achey joints. Increasing your intake of collagen can slow the aging process by filling these gaps.

Vital Proteins has some great research on their website and through my own research I’ve found that not all supplements are created equal. For example, if you take collagen in pill form it is less bioavailable, meaning it’s harder for your body to absorb and utilize.

Vital Proteins sent me a handful of powders to try so every morning I’ve been making myself an anti-aging coffee using their marine collagen powder + coconut oil! It’s delicious, nutritious and super simple.

ANTI-AGING COFFEE

1/2 cup coffee (or 2 shots espresso)

1/2 cup steamed almond milk

1 teaspoon coconut oil

1/4 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)

Pour ingredients into a blender, blend until frothy and enjoy!
