Work/Life Balance: a Q & A with Megan from Lush To Blush

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a “Real Women, Real Balance” interview so I am super excited to introduce you to Megan today.

Megan is the creative stylist behind Lush To Blush, a fashion lifestyle blog.

We met through Nellie Magazine and it has been so much fun to get to know her and learn more about who she is.

She is self-proclaimed lover of the earth and everything in it, especially flowers. She finds comfort in coffee and scented candles and loves to explore fashion, lifestyle and all things lovely.

It’s always fun to get a glimpse into how REAL women seek balance in the midst of their busy lives. So, enjoy!

1. Hi Megan! Let’s start with the basics. What do you do for a living?

I’m a full time blogger, but I also freelance write for various publications including Groupon City Guide Atlanta. I also style photo shoots for retailers. I recently started offering consulting & design services for both businesses & bloggers and it has been a lot of fun so far!

2. What inspired you to start your blog?

I started my blog when the magazine I was writing for folded. I needed a creative outlet and my best friend suggested I start my own blog. I couldn’t believe how obvious the idea was. It was the perfect fit for me as a writer with a fashion obsession.

3. What does a typical day look like for you?

I wake up at around 8am and immediately check my email and Instagram (I’m totally addicted). Then I answer any urgent emails and get up and get ready for the day, take the dogs out and make some coffee.

At 10am my boyfriend leaves for work and I get started on my routine. I update my finance spreadsheet for blog revenue, check all my social channels, and work on blog posts.

I can sometimes squeeze in a freelance article if I don’t have a photo shoot that day. Then I usually work on documents for my blog consulting clients or design work for those clients.

When my boyfriend gets home, we cook dinner and eat together and just hang out for a little bit. Then I go back to the computer and wrap everything up for the day.

4. You’re a busy lady! What do you do when you’re not working?

Well, I am working almost always (hiring an assistant this week!), but my work is fun. I love styling my own photo shoots and doing research for my articles or blog posts. But besides work, I’ve really been into gardening lately. I also love meeting with other bloggers/brand reps in Atlanta.

5. As you know, The Balanced Life is all about empowering women to approach health & fitness with a balanced mindset. How do you handle the pressure as a woman to look or act a certain way?

As a personal style blogger, I put my image out into the blogosphere willingly, so I have to be able to accept criticism.

Honestly, I’m not the type of person to really care about others’ opinions on my appearance. Not everyone is going to like how I look, but that doesn’t really matter to me. I’m happy with what I look like, mainly because that’s not going to change anytime soon. As far as my actions, I try to treat everyone with kindness and respect, all while staying true to myself.

6. I love that. What does balance mean to you during your current season of life?

For me, balance is definitely all about my work/personal life. I have a really hard time actually taking a break from work, partly because I love it so much and partly because there’s just so much to do. It’s a constant struggle, but I’m always aware of it and work on achieving that balance every day.

7.  I can definitely relate to that! Who/what inspires you to keep living well?

My future. I want to live a long and happy life, and that so strongly depends on how I treat my body and myself now. I don’t want to look back and think of all the things I should have done when I was young.

8. What is your best tip for maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the midst of a busy life?

Cook at home! Preparing your own meals makes a world of a difference in your health. Processed foods full of saturated fats and sodium might taste good, but they aren’t doing anything for you. What you eat should be tasty and nourishing, both of which you can control when cooking at home.

9. Thank you so much Megan! Are there any projects you’re working on that you’d like us to know about?

I’m actually in the process of writing a recipe/dinner party inspiration book! It’s still in the beginning stages, but I’m super excited about it. I am also starting a travel blog with my boyfriend who is a photographer. We’re going to LA in a few weeks and then Europe this summer!

How wonderful is she? Be sure to check out Megan’s blog Lush to Blush and follow her on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
