《佛为首迦长者说业报差别经》，里面宣讲了供灯的十种功德：
1、照世如灯。供灯者生生世世如同世间的明灯，转生为人也是人中之王，就像上师如意宝一样，慧灯照亮整个世界。
2、肉眼不坏。供灯者肉眼非常明亮，不会变成盲人，也不会成近视眼。有些人眼睛看不清楚，需要戴度数很高的眼镜，往往以前没有供过灯，这辈子应该好好供。
3、得于天眼。供灯者将来会获得五眼中的天眼。
4、善恶智能。能辨别善法和恶法，懂得一切因果取舍。现在世间上许多人极为盲目，不知善恶取舍，而供灯者的智慧超越其他人。
5、灭除大暗。具有超胜的智慧，能灭除自他相续中的一切愚痴黑暗。
6、得智能明。自己的智慧超群众人，不受外界的各种诱惑，有辨别取舍的能力。
7、不在暗处。生生世世不会转生在邪见或者黑暗的地方，住于光明的殊胜之地。
8、具大福报。转生为具有大福报的众生。世间人认为大福报就是有钱、有权、有车、有房。其实真正有福报的人，终生不会造罪业，具有修持善法的机会。没钱不一定是福报浅薄，一个人即生中遇到佛法，行持佛法的机会圆满，就是有大福德的人。
9、命终生天。命终后不会堕入恶趣，而会转生天界。其他经典中也说，长期供灯的人不会生于恶趣，而是上生天趣，即使投生人间，也生于高贵种族的家庭中，不会生在具邪见者的家里。我们极个别道友生长在具有邪见的家庭中，父母亲的邪见极其严重，孩子以微薄的力量很难转变他们。而供灯的话，可以帮助他们消业积福。
10、速证涅槃。很快的时间中能证得圣者的果位。
